About my setting

Dairy Cottage

I offer a caring and loving home from home environment, whilst following the curriculum of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our home is an old dairy workers cottage, and as such is based on the edge of a working dairy farm. We are very lucky as we have such beautiful countryside literally on our doorstep and the children in my care are able to see and interact with this daily. We also have a small vegetable plot and an area for children to grow their own herbs we try to incorporate as many home grown/ local ingredients into our food/snacks as possible. We also have a very friendly little dog called Darla who loves to snuggle and enjoys a stroke and were hoping to grow our family of pets in 2017!

Children have full access to the living room, kitchen/diner and self -contained back garden and decking area which is suitable for pre walkers to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Child led and free play is encouraged, I run weekly themes throughout the year which the children will be encouraged to participate in at home too. Details of past activities and the current theme of the week can be found on the notice boards in the hall allowing you a quick point of reference on drop off and pick up on what your children have been up to whilst in my care. Your children’s developmental journey during their time with me is documented through their personal journal which is yours to keep at the end of their time with me. I am also able to send photographic updates via my mobile phone if you should wish to receive regular update during their days with me.

Play underpins all development and learning for young children. I actively encourage freedom of expression and messy play (providing spare clothes is a must!). So much can be discovered and learnt through outdoor play whether in the garden or on an outing to the park. I plan outings to places such as local parks, local known walks, Mini Meadows farm park, playgroups and many more, I aim to get out and about regularly and in all weathers.

I use a coded sticker system which will allows you to easily see how each activity is linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage. This journal belongs to your child and is yours to take home and bring with you each time the child comes to me.

Settling in

I offer as many settling in sessions as is neccessary to enable your child to settle well before starting with me. Settling in is a very individual process and I work with with parents to make it a happy experience for everyone. We will take the settling in process at your child's pace.

I am more than happy for you to phone me during the day to check on your child, I want you to feel at ease by knowing how your child is getting on.
